Multilayer vs Screw Retained implant crowns

My team was asking me when I choose multilayer vs screw retained crowns not long ago. I personally try to do screw retained implant crowns whenever possible, but if I get an implant back that is a little too angled it doesn't make it possible without opening the contact up. I put some slides together for a visual and just thought I would share in case anyone else wants to use them.

*If you are not using your CEREC to restore implants, get down to the level 3 course and learn how! It is your biggest ROI with your investment and once you do it a few times, you quickly see how straight forward it really is.

Happy Monday everyone!!!

That is a great summary Kris!

Well done.

Mike it was great meeting you as well and happy to hear that you are booked for the course! Have fun with your new CEREC. You will do great!!

thumbs up

Well done Kris!!

So awesome to see you this past weekend at level 3/4.  Wish Dan could have made it.  Love it when schedules allow so many of us to be in one place at the same time.

Great diagram and summary!

I also like to do multi layer when I want to use a  more specific shade of eMax for the crown (i.e, not LT but MT or HT).

I'm surprised the minimal thickness police let you do that multilayer case.  Perfect explanation for what to do when though.

Great work!  We were just having a conversation about this with our doctors last week.  Almost like you read my mind, and I didn't have to generate new content!  Thanks!

oh geez you should have just texted me from the couch and I would have sent them to you rolling on the floor

I was too busy planning my next golf trip...

I actually prefer multilayer abutments to screw retained crowns meanwhile because

1.they look better without the screw hole

2. zirconia has high biocompatibility than emax (soft tissue)

3. less problems with the proximal contacts

I use screw retained crowns only if absolutely necessary (minimal thickness issues).
